If children are in the room, you may want them to divert their eyes, because what you are about to see is the mating ritual of the zucchini plant! 
I’ve been having issues with my zucchini plant not producing enough vegetables, although it blooms over and over again. After some quick searching (oh, how I love search engines!) I found that sometimes the bees don’t do thier job quite right and the blooms are actually not being pollinated.
So if you ever have this problem, here’s what you do:
1. First find the male flower. It will be a bloom with a normal stem.
2. Find the female flower. It will be the bloom with what looks like a tiny zucchini on it.
3. Take the male flower off the plant and peel away the bloom leaving the stamen exposed. (sorry there is no modesty here!)
4. Take the exposed male bloom and hand pollinate the female bloom.
5. Wait for the new zucchini to grow! And grow they will. I’ve had to do this multiple times the last couple weeks and it works amazingly well.

I’ve read about this, but so far, I haven’t had the opportunity to “mate” my plants. Thanks for sharing these humorous and helpful tips.

Kind of makes me wonder what’s going on with those bees. The honey bee numbers are diminishing and now you have slacker bees that aren’t pollinating your zucchini plants.

Heather, Supposedly, so I’ve heard, it may have something to do with the pesticides. Since the bees are all up on the plants after they are sprayed, it effects them and their reproduction and makes them kind of dumb.
I haven’t looked into it enough to know if it’s just an extremist viewpoint or actual science, but it kinda makes sense.

I’ve been doing the same thing at our house with the pumpkins!
I keep heading out the back door, announcing that “I’m off to go do some pumpkin mating!” My husband just snickers at me.
