Hike up them drawers!

I have a skinny little kid. He’s always been little really, hasn’t been over the 15th percentile since he was 6 months old. And he has a teeny tiny little booty. So all his pants fall off all the time. To make matters worse (well, I guess it’a actually a good thing, but you get my drift!), he’s also been in underpants full time since he was two so he doesn’t even have a diaper to help him out.

A while back I saw an ad online for these cute little snappers that acted like a belt, but only in the back. While super cute, I usually cheap out when I see things like that, so I began to brainstorm to find something else that would be just as useful.

Back when I used to ride and show horses, we had to wear clips on the bottom of our pants (strapped under the boots) to keep our pants from riding up, and they were adjustable. I knew they were at least a few bucks a pair, but better than paying per “belt”. Before I was able to get to the store to pick up a pair, my mom did me one better.

She found these little clips (advertised for keeping mittens on coats) at the dollar store! She got two of them for just a buck. And they work great! Even on his pants that don’t have loops, I can just clip them onto the extra fabric. Now we no longer have pants falling down all day!

This totally works for me! And if you’d like to check out some other moms frugal ideas, head over here.

That is a great idea Donielle, and very inexpensive as well! One of my little fellows really needed this when he was younger, but not any more ~ I found a couple pairs of jeans with expandable/retractable elastic in the waist at Ross. :-)

This is a great idea- I STILL have that problem with a six-year-old and fewer and fewer pants in that age range have the inside adjusters.
This reminds me though of the little clips I wore on the back of my blazers in the ’80s – maybe I still have a few lying around!

Cute! We have similar problem (even with a CD bubble-butt!) but I’ve found that the Janie and Jack pants have the adjustable waists inside like some maternity pants do. They are my favorite ebay/consignment store purchase!

What a great idea. We have the same issue in our house. Although Anders is still in diapers, so he’s sagging.

This is brilliant! I’m going to look for those. Both my girls have teeny waists and now that they’re in underwear it’s even harder to keep their pants up.

Awesome tip! Much easier than little hands trying to undo a belt when having a “hurry call”. We’ve got skinny-minnies at our house too! By the way, cute booty :) ~Jenny

Found your blog from surfing the comments on the challenge at Diaper Diaries… cute! I wanted to tell you Bravado makes great nursing bras if you had a little extra $$ hangin’ around.

Thank you Thank you! I have some of these clips from the dollar store that I use to clip onto sheet corners after they lose their elasticity. I can’t believe I never thought of this! Hooray, no more sewing waistbands for me!

PERFECT!!!! That is a marvelous idea for my skinny little mini children! :) You’ve just doubled their wardrobe because now I can put the clothes back into rotation that were too big around the waist! thankyouthankyouthankyou!
