And then there were two

Making the change from one kid to two really hasn’t been as hard as I thought it was going to be. It’s helped that we follow a basic schedule most days and it keeps us on track. Plus, most newborns sleep quite a bit and when the little girl does decide to get a bit fussy, I just pop her in the sling and she nods right off!

But I really have to say that making the switch from none to one was definitely a lot harder than this has been!

Except that now I’m outnumbered!

Like yesterday at church. I brought the kiddos by myself since Todd wasn’t feeling great. So I put baby in the sling to keep my hands free (double duty since no one can touch her and give her germs!) and in we went. And of course we showed up late and service had already started.

It was after church that the outnumbering truly began.

Just imagine all the fun of chasing a toddler through a crowd of folks who are trying to stop you so they can see the new baby. What a sight I must have been! Weaving in and out of people with a baby strapped to my front, all the while hollering back to those trying to stop me “I’m losing my other kid!”.

That of course I can just laugh off. It was comical, I know. It’s the toddler tantrums we now have the privilege of witnessing, that get to me. Poor Cody just wants to be Cody. He doesn’t always want to be the big brother or to have to look at his little sister anymore. He knows her name, but he knows everyone else does too. So about the hundredth time he was asked yesterday he just lost it. And from there on out, he was done. Done holding my hand (hence the running!) done being nice, and just plain old done having fun.

So while the change hasn’t been big for me, our first baby is still adjusting. And I guess I can relate since I was the oldest as well. And I used to kick my sister as she crawled around the house.

He’s gone from mommy’s little helper to the diaper thrower away-er, the pacifier and burp cloth getter, and the picker upper of everything. And it’s hard to have to wait for mom or dad to build a new train track, or read a book. All in all, it’s hard to be a big brother!
