Today I’m bringing you a guest post from Desiree Fawn. She’s mama to 4 month old Gretchen and blogs at So Fawned all the way up in Canada.

Babywearing: Happy Babies & Happier Mamas
by, Desiree Fawn

There are many articles citing that the art of babywearing makes for happier, smarter & healthier babies and I absolutely agree. However, I feel as though I am benefiting just as much as a mother. Babywearing has solved so many issues that have come up and I cannot imagine parenting without it. I actually started collecting babywearing devices before my daughter was born. I had seen a few mamas wearing their babies on walks and at the grocery store and knew I wanted to give it a try but I never imagined what an incredible asset it would be.

When Gretchen was a newborn the only way that I could help her fall asleep was to put her in the sling and do laps around our apartment. The movement soothed her I loved her being so close. It helped us both to feel peaceful. Having her in the sling also served as a way to keep her swaddled and secure while she fell asleep. During those first few weeks the only time that I could manage to shower was when Gretchen was happy in the sling being worn by her daddy.

Now that she is four months old I still use the sling every single day and the benefits are no less. When she is fussy, a quick jaunt in the sling will calm her. If we are in public and she is hungry I can quickly change her position and latch her on before she starts to get upset or cry. I can even walk while nursing and no one notices.

Babywearing puts my mind at ease. I never have to worry about carting a stroller up and down our stairs or whether or not a place is stroller accessible or easy to maneuver. It makes shopping & running errands much easier. I also love that I can feel productive around the house while wearing her. I can cook, clean & fold laundry with her in the sling and she’s just as content as can be.

I love knowing that she sees what I see and that I am helping her learn about the world. I know that she is safe in the sling & she is so happy being face to face with everyone and greets them all with big smiles.

Babywearing makes for a happy baby & an incredibly happy mama. I have no idea what we would do without it. I hope she will continue to love being worn as much as I love wearing her for a very long time.

Thanks Desiree!! What a great post!
