Preview of my online “Preparing for Pregnancy” Class

Welcome! Here at Naturally Knocked Up, it's more than just overcoming infertility (though we cover that too!). It's about learning how to best prepare your body for pregnancy and lower your risk of miscarriage and complications to go on and have a healthy, happy baby! Overwhelmed and need a place to start? This List should get you on the right track! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or you can follow me on Facebook or Twitter
Thanks for visiting!

Hopefully launching early this summer (still figuring out the logistics of how to make it all work!) I’ve been busy working on an e-course and thought I’d share a little bit more about the topics that will be in it!

Week One: Body Detox

All about how to naturally assist your bodies own detoxification system.

Week Two: Environment Detox/Natural Living

We’ll talk about common toxins and how we can lower (and prevent) our exposure to them.

Week Three: Exercise

Why it’s important, how much, what to do, etc.

Week Four: Natural Family Planning

An overview in NFP to help you figure out when your most fertile times are.

Week Five: Diets

A crash course in Real Food along with dietary guidelines pertaining to fertility. Included will be a menu plan and recipes.

Week Six: Super Foods for Fertility

A go to guide for eating to not only support fertility, but to increase it!

Week Seven: What not to eat

Many of our modern foods are not only unhealthy, but damage our fertility in the process.

Week Eight: Herbs for Fertility

Discussions about the natural “medicine”, how to use, what you can take, etc.

Week Nine: Alternative Medicine for Infertility

Beyond food and herbs there are many other natural medicinal techniques other than drugs.

Week Ten: Stress

Why it’s an issue and what we can do about it!

Week Eleven: Fertility Tips

Small things you can do to increase your fertility!

Week Twelve: Review and Where to Go From Here

A look back at the previous weeks and a discussion on what the weeks/months ahead may look for you.

Each week I’ll provide text and audio, along with any PDF files and videos that may correlate to the specific topic. I will also have a forum set up so that we can all chat about the topics as the week progresses and if you have any questions they can be answered!

This course is not meant to be a “get pregnant fast” promise. My goal in this is to teach you how to support and nourish your body. It’s timeless advice based not on modern medicine, but on what has worked for us for centuries. Though if you are going through the modern medicinal route, don’t worry, the advice contained within is for you too!

Now, here is where I ask you for help.

A lot of this is beyond my realm of expertise! There is a lot, a lot of computer issues, website issues and logistics that need to be figured out. Setting this up so it works in the best way possible for you is my second biggest goal – but it’s taking a lot of my man hours. If you could please pray for me; that my time is well spent and productive, that my family doesn’t get placed on the back burner, that the logistics come together smoothly and quickly, and that this course will be a blessing to others. Thanks!

Also – here is your one chance for input! If something you really want covered is not contained in the weeks above, go ahead and let me know.

I love that you cover what TO eat before you cover what NOT to eat. Too many times I see nutrition advice that goes over what NOT to eat first. When you have someone who is and has eaten the standard American diet their whole life when you cut out all the bad foods they are left feeling lost. Their whole diet is gone and they don’t know where to go and give up, discouraged. The way you’ve got it arranged people are free to eat what they’re familiar with during the transition periods, introducing new, better versions of their favorites before cutting out the bad things. I think it’s a much better (and more positive!!) way to do things. As opposed to the negative: don’t eat this, you start with the positive: eat this, it’s better.

I think this sounds wonderful & very helpful but I’m always curious what those of us are supposed to do when we’ve tried everything natural. I struggle with this daily trying to find a balance between eating & living chemical free but also having to ingest medications that are synthetic during treatments. Perhaps having a section about foods & supplements that would support those going through In Vitro & a special section on PCOS.

As I plan to continue to nurse until my 8 month old son is two or older I hope you will make a notation if something isn’t recommended while breastfeeding. Otherwise it sounds fantastic. While I can’t help you with the computer or lack of hours in the day, we will be praying that your family will enjoy your time as you help so many of us. I would also like to offer any assistance you may desire in ssues relating to fertility and massage as well as prenatal massage. I’m a licenced massage therapist certified and specializing in reproductive massage.

  4. I am excited for this class, as my husband and I plan to start trying this summer! I am already 31, so a little worried I am not as young as everyone else around me that has kids already. I am trying to get 10 lbs off before we start trying. Doing the Insanity workouts so it should not be a problem! I know this is a “preparing” class, but maybe you could touch on the different options for the actual birth (natural vs. unnatural)–or maybe this is a completely different class :) I have been researching the Bradley method, but I think there are other schools of thought out there when it comes to natural—mabye?

Andrea – you won’t be the oldest in the class!

I’m 43 (and a half, as my gyno was quick to point out, LOL), and have never tried to get pregnant. My husband of 3 years and I have decided to see if we can get pregnant, starting this summer. I have been working toward a whole-food diet for maybe a year, and I’m doing better all the time. I had already started working with a personal trainer to get 20 lbs off for my health (and vanity, let’s be honest!) And now I’m *really* motivated. In a couple of weeks we’ll test my FSH to see if I have any eggs left, and if so, then we’re off to the races!

I’m new to your site, and I really appreciate all the information that is already here, Donielle! I’ve been an observer of Traditional Nutrition for quite a while, and a voracious student of it for some months – I hope to learn enough to help others on their Nourishing Journeys, too! As for the technical aspects, perhaps Wardeh at http://www.gnowfglins.com could help you? She’s in the midst of her first eCourse on Traditional Foods Preparation.

I would be interested in this class. I agree with Nicole on the section with PCOS. I was diagnosed with it last summer after a few months of TTC. A woman at our church told me about “Nourishing Traditions” after I believed that there had to be more than just taking a pill to regulate my cycles and then a pill to get pregnant (well, not at all definite). So far, I have had two normal cycles with changing how we are eating and I’m hoping to have another one soon, but I would love to learn more.

Another subject might be hints for husbands – eating, exercise – anything that would be helpful for husbands to do to increase their fertility.

Thanks for preparing for this course! I’ll be praying for you
