Beth decided to host another craft day today, and I’m gladly jumping in as I have a few Christmas presents to finish up!
Now, parents. You may NOT look at the rest of this post. Or you shall ruin your Christmas surprise.
Got it?
Alrighty then…..
First up my 3yo painted some ornaments (that we got from Dad’s Wooden Toys on Etsy) for his grandparents and great grandma.

Next up was a Minkie blanket for my baby girl! This took awhile as I made up the pattern myself and it was a little trial and error from the get go. Especially cause I’m horrible at math. And measuring. And geometry.
The petals sewn together.

And I finally got the rest finished after I fought with my machine for 20 minutes. Here’s the front:

And the soft ‘minkie’ back:

Now I’m just waiting for the baby to nap so I can put the toddler in quiet time and possible get started on some fabric blocks.

@Mary Jo, Thanks! It took a lot longer than I thought it would, but I’m really happy with how it turned out!

Wow! What an awesome blanket! Sadly, we’re not crafting much at ALL today! Forgot Levi had a dr appt and then he got his (selective, delayed (hehe)) vaccinations, and now he’s a fussy, clingy baby boy! Sigh. Maybe tomorrow he’ll sleep all day and I’ll get tons done.

Very cute blanket!
My husband was painting wooden blocks today (that he made himself) as a present for our nephew. You remind me that I have sooooo many crafts I need to finish. By this weekend. Sheets, blankets, homemade lotions, heating pads (those rice ones), etc. etc.

@Kate, How fabulous! Next year I hope to have enough skills to make most all of the gifts we give. And how long do those rice packs stay hot? I was thinking about making one for my 3yo since his room gets kind of chilly at night.

The rice filled ones only stay hot an hour or so, although they may feel warm for awhile longer (a few hours) if they’re kept next to you. Bigger ones may stay hotter longer, or, if you microwave them a little too long and wrap them in a towel, they’d stay hot longer. I used to use a couple smaller ones to warm my son’s bed (he’s 5 months) so he wasn’t woken by the cold when I set him down. They stayed hot only 30 – 45 min. alone in his bed. Which of course meant they were safe for him…. The ones I do are only about 3 – 4″ by 8 – 10″ so maybe a much bigger one, like 8 x 8 or 8 x 16 would last longer? I’ve also heard you can fill them with flax seeds and I bet that would last longer too but it would be MUCH more expensive. I’m curious if you can find a good solution!
