Especially after seeing Food Inc. this week, I’m more determined than ever to expand my garden next year and grow and preserve more of our own food! So earlier this morning I went out to check on it and was pleasantly surprised at how well things were looking.
Minus the weeds of course.
Like my cucumbers
But all in all, this year has gone so much better than last year and I’m ever so grateful for God’s blessing on my little garden. I continue to pray that it keeps flourishing so that I can feed my family the healthiest food possible. And of course, so that it saves us a bit of money over the winter.

Could you tell me your ratio of onion:gaarlic:pepper? I definitely need something to keep the bugs away!

I too would love to know the "recipe" for your spray. Check out my garden: http://copingwithfrugality.blogspot.com/2009/08/how-does-your-garden-grow-august-6.html

I usually use:
3 cups water
1 good sized onion
a few garlic cloves (like 3)
and a Tbsp cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes
Simmer together (covered) for about 30 minutes. Strain and keep in the refrigerator.
I then use a large 1 1/2 gallon sprayer, so I pour about a 1/2 cup of the concentrate into it along with a few drops of some natural dish soap (helps it to stick), fill the rest with water and spray every few days in the evening. (during the day would cause the leaves to burn)
If you use a smaller hand sprayer just put a Tbsp or so of concentrate in it with one drop of soap.
