Homemade taco seasoning should be a staple in every kitchen. It’s a great way to keep preservatives and components like MSG and extra sugar out of our food. (Plus it’s so much cheaper!) After some playing around with a couple recipes, I finally have one that we really like.
- 2 Tbsp chili powder
- 5 tsp paprika
- 4 tsp cumin
- 3 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- just a dash a cayenne pepper
- Mix all ingredients together in a jar and shake them to mix. I normally use about half this mixture for each pound of beef we use, but start with a couple tablespoons and go from there to match your own taste!

I love homemade taco seasoning! My recipe is a little different than yours….but not everyone has the same tastes! Great tip!

Is there a good substitute for the cumin? My stomach doesn’t handle it well.
Thanks,
Joey

@Joey, I really don’t know if there is another spice with the same basic flavor. But I often times run out and just make it without. Sure, the flavor is different, but the best thing about making spice mixes at home is that you can base it off of your own taste preferences or dietary needs!
