Meeting Katie

Last night I had the pleasure to meet Katie of Kitchen Stewardship as she invited me over for a “real food” Pampered Chef party. And it’s so fun when my bloggy friends turn to real life friends!

And like any good blogger, I brought my camera.

I’m pretty sure her other guests thought I was off my rocker when I hauled out my camera to take pictures of my plate of food.

Until she introduced me as a blogger. Cause us bloggers….we’re a rare breed!

But seriously, I don’t miss an opportunity for some good REAL food. Even the baby wanted some.IMG_0822

She made some yummy deviled eggs with some homemade mayo. Delish!deviled egg

And sourdough bread (gonna have to try this recipe – it was quite good!) with some homemade butter.sourdough bread

But really….. she had me at “whole wheat cookies”. whole wheat cookie

It was also fun watching everyone else “get up the nerve” to try her pomagranate water kefir! (Which was wonderfully refreshing)IMG_0831

And what real food party doesn’t end with passing out cultures and sourdough starters?IMG_0832

Thanks Katie, I had a blast!!IMG_0834

    @Musings of a Housewife, Water kefir is so good! It’s a slightly sweet fermented drink that id full of probiotics. Here’s my post on it:

  2. How did she make the pomegranite kefir? I am doing my first batch of water kefir and want to know what she adds to the second ferment….

    @Susan B, I didn’t get a chance to ask her if she did a one or two ferment step on it. Well, I did ask, but a bunch of new ladies came in she had to attend to first! I’ll have her come back to answer.

    In the meantime though, here are my directions:
    I ferment for 48 hours with the grains in plain sugar water and then if I want to flavor, I use 2/3 of the kefir and 1/3 juice and let sit out for another 24 hours.

    @Susan B,
    I make kefir much like Donielle, and sometimes I leave it out for another 24 hours, sometimes I don’t because I have very young children and don’t need the carbonation or the slight amount of alcohol so much. For this batch, I made 48 hour kefir and refrigerated it right away, then just added 16 oz 100% pomegranate juice to 64 oz kefir the day of the party. (That’s a 4:1 ratio kefir to juice if I’m doing the math right.) :)

    Here are my water kefir directions.

    The pomegranate juice is excellent with kefir! Almost no “cultured” flavor.

    @Katie @ Kitchen Stewardship, I agree- very little culture flavor!

  3. Woo hoo! I knew you’d get to post before I did, and your pictures are great. You didn’t get to the fruit pizza before it was demolished, though, eh? My sourdough jar looks pretty pathetic – perhaps it’s time to give it a cleaner home!

    It was GREAT to meet you!
    :) Katie

    (And I’m your newest subscriber to help yr numbers! I can’t believe I wasn’t already…)

    donielle Reply:

    @Katie @ Kitchen Stewardship, Yea, I totally forgot about the chicken and fruit pizza! I was pleasantly surprised at the chicken dish too – it was quite yummy!

    Also, come back to the comments and let everyone know how you did you kefir – they’re asking. :-)

  4. Oh that sounds like my kinda party!! Glad you had a good time… did you get the recipes?!?! LOL! I had to ask.

    donielle Reply:

    @Marillyn @ just-making-noise, I didn’t leave with the recipes, but you know… the one good thing about bloggy friends is I know exactly where I can go to find them! 😀

    @Marillyn @ just-making-noise,
    I posted on the party menu plan with as many recipes as possible: here. It was fun!
    :) Katie

  5. Darn- take me with you next time. Yum

  6. Thanks, Donielle and Katie! I am so psyched for this first batch to finish up! I hydrated the crystals on Sunday and it says to check after 3-4 days. I’m going to give it a sip tonight!

    @Susan B, Let me know what you think of it!
