Food is pretty bland until you start sprinkling on the seasoning.
The problem is, we’re so used to being told how food should taste and we just accept what’s put in front of us.
And I haven’t noticed it lately, but I seem to remember a very large part of a grocery aisle full of prepackaged seasonings for just about any type of dressing or dish you wanted to make. And let’s not forget about the packets placed in those “dinner in a box” type of meals either.
But because you’re my favorite folks around, let me fill you in on a little secret.
I’ll let you in on another little fact – sometimes those little packets contain ingredients that you wouldn’t really want to put in your body. Things like flavor enhancers. And probably old spices. (I say “probably”, because the herbs and spices I buy from Mountain Rose Herbs taste a million times better than any packet I’ve ever purchased.)

The last couple of days I’ve sat down with my herbal catalogs trying to figure out what spices I need to re-stock. My top nine spices are still going strong, but I’m thinking of branching out a bit and trying a few new ones. (Anyone have any recipes for seasoning mixes I need to try?)
