Nourishing Goals

Kimi over at the Nourishing Gourmet is hosting a Nourishing New Years Resolution Carnival
and I thought this would be a great time to sit down myself and think about what I’d like to accomplish this year. See, last year has been a great start, but you don’t change a lifetimes worth of habits all at once. It’s been a slow process for me and hopefully over the next year I can grow by leaps and bounds as well!

My Goals for the New Year:

  • Learn to make my own stocks and broths
  • Learn to make sourdough bread
  • Start using flours other than wheat (which I’ve gotten a head start on this week seeing as how we’re putting my husband on a gluten free diet for awhile!)
  • Soak all the ingredients we use for granola bars (I’ve been a bit lax lately!)
  • Try my hand at making at least one fermented food
  • Continue with the garden this summer
  • Can and freeze as many fruits and veggies as I can this summer and fall
  • If the budget allows, join a fruit CSA this summer
  • Check out a local whole foods co-op
  • Finish replacing my non stick cookware (only a couple pieces left to go!)
  • And finally (if the budget allows) I’d love to have my very own grain mill and bosch mixer, but we’ll just see what comes our way!

    Making my own bone broth was a goal for last year. I think I’ve finally got the hang of it, though there’s room for improvement! :)

    One caution about someone going on a gluten free diet. If you are wondering about Celiac disease, get tested BEFORE going on the diet. Once you are on the diet, the tests come back negative as the body is no longer producing the antibodies or having the reaction. I had to learn that the hard way so even though I am extremely sensitive to gluten, they can’t test me.
